Balancing budgets on Benefits

In case anyone bet on England winning the Rugby and were surprised by the Cymru (wales) win of 30-3 and needs financial help or better benefit planning if on sickness benefits heres the best advice as its ST Patricks Day.

If you are on Incapacity Benefit and Income support for disability you may qualify for Council Housing or Housing Benefit for Housing Association properties. Ensure that your housing benefit goes straight to your landlord so that you have a tenancy that’s secure.

You may need to pay for a top up amount of rent depending on the rate set by the local council. You can do this at Paypoint machines in corner shops and post offices with swipe cards at the same time as gas and electric. This set amount per fortnight on a budget can help.

Other main annual expenditures:

Household Insurance (varies, approx £150-200 a year but some provision is made by landlords such as the local council)

Savings. When on Incapacity benefit and income support the savings limit is £16,000. However other relatives may hold amounts for you or a professional can set up a blind trust that pays a dividend amount to you or your carer.

Pension plans are allowed for those who are unwell and also for payment for the aged 50s when incapacity benefit drops down for men in that decade. This is why people on Incapacity benefit are meant to save in their 30s and 40s and claim child benefit for their families.

Food costs £20-40 a week if you buy ‘horsemeat meals’

If on income support you get free dentistry and chiropody on the NHS and prescriptions.

Alcohol is costly in terms of health as you won’t be able to drive if on mental health medication.

Drugs are worse in this society as they are illegal and therefore unregulated. Debts incurred that way are difficult to regulate and affect spiritual discipline.

Clothing is cheaper at Primark and marks and spencer and shoezone in Uxbridge.

Childrens clothing (school uniforms) is available from Marks and Spencer and clothing catalogues or Parent Teacher associations.

Studying: There is student finance England that advises on this. Applications are made via the UCAS process.

Employment and Support allowance has a lesser amount paid than IB/IS. However the idea is that you are helped into employment and receive payment yourself to top it up and for the income related component. If that doesn’t occur there is a larger payment from the other personal independence payment benefit.
