I used to like going to the Shovel on a summer evening and taking our drinks outside and watching the boats go through the lock.

I don't go there any more because since it was renovated you can't easily get to the lock.

The Coy Carp in Harefield takes some beating location wise, and on the few occasions I have had a meal there the food is decent enough and reasonably priced.

Slightly more up market, therefore a bit more expensive, is The Old Orchard in Harefield. The views alone are worth a visit.

Because of their good locations both places can soon get packed on a warm sunny day though.

Recently found this pub and taken a few guests there, it's lovely and great for a walk after a meal. Only managed to drive there but plan to cycle there along the canal soon.

We used to love going to the Waters Edge in Ruislip (by the Lido) for the carvery. It was always cheap but nice food. We went there on a Wednesday Evening a few weeks ago and it was awful. The meat was so dry that it was hard, the vegetables were dried up, soggy roast potatoes and the gravy was a congealed blob !! There was no cutlery and despite asking we ended up finding some ourselves. No wonder the place was empty.
We thought it might have been a one off bad night and went back on a Sunday - it was busier but the food was just as bad. Over cooked & left on the hot plates to dry out. We won't be going there again !!
