If there lips move they are lying simple as..... Both the Tories and Lib Dems committed themselves to oppose further expansion at Heathrow, Stansted and Gatwick as part of their manifesto promise during the 201o election. http://www.mayorwatch.co.uk/heathrow-ex ... /201220012 Quote: Ministers are considering expanding Heathrow to tackle Britain’s lack of air capacity, according to the Independent on Sunday and Observer newspapers. Wonder how much the chairman of BAA paid to get that lunch with Cameron? And Andrew Lansley's private office being paid for by a private health care provider is another "coincidence" of course. Margaret Moran (ex MP) comes up for trial in a few weeks (expenses scandal), she has also in the past allegedly been trying to sell access to powerful people. She even set up a PLC along with other MP's and Peers to do it. Google Eurim Ltd for the Lowdown on how these people take cash for favours destroying British jobs in the process. |

From the IOS "Secret plans being drawn up in Whitehall include the possibility of transforming the runway at RAF Northolt, a tiny airport six miles from Heathrow used by the Queen and military top brass, into an effective third runway, which would not involve the destruction of neighbouring villages." So there we have it:-: A 3rd runway, but not the 3rd runway that they promised would never happen. You can already see the spin regarding 'no destruction of villages'. Next will be that it will not effect the air quality around Heathrow as it's 6 miles away, etc etc Don't forget, the RAF are looking to dispose of Northolt in the next few years, so BAA can walk straight in This has the potential to wreck the whole of Hillingdon. In addition to an increase in air movements at Northolt, the disruption would effect Uxbridge, Cowley, South Ruislip, Eastcote, Ickenham + Rusilip. Plus a rail link will have to go through Hillingdon., Hillingdon Heath, Hayes End, Yiewsley & West Daryton. Then there's the extra traffic. I have a bad feeling about this |

I cant help thinking this is half the problem with this country. There is no genuine forward thinking, planning, vision and development. Its all about the short term and muddling through, while at the same time setting up horrendously expensive public enquiries and consultations that go on for years. At the taxpayers expense needless to say. Lets be honest here. Heathrow has been there for longer than most of the residents who live in its surrounds. Many of the residents have chosen to live close to the airport because it provides work. It is responsible for providing approximately 76,000 jobs directly, and 116,000 jobs in the surrounding areas. ( wikepedia ) Amsterdam ( Schiphol ) airport currently has 6 runways, and is planning to expand further. Frankfurt ( Main ) currently has 4 runways and is planning to expand further Paris ( Charles De Gaulle ) currently has 4 runways and is planning to expand. ( London ) Heathrow has just 2 runways, and is operating at 99% capacity ( London ) Gatwick has just 1 runway. In a rather pathetic attempt to convince the outside world that the UK is open for business in the last few years, there have been some half hearted attempts to rename several other regional airports in the South East. ( London ) Luton ( London ) Stanstead ( London ) Oxford ( London ) Southend Manston International ( Kent ) I see there are now plans afoot to expand Birmingham airport and rename that (London ) Birmingham airport, on the back of the yet to be started HS2. Its madness. Like it or not air transport is vital to our economy, Our European neighbours have recognised that fact, and have acted accordingly. All OUR various governments have done so far is prevaricate, flounder and tax the industry to the hilt. We now officially have the highest rate of air travel taxes in the world. Again our near European neighbours have seen the folly of that, and have scrapped them altogether ( Netherlands ) or drastically reduced them. Our government have just announced yet another increase. Where do you suppose all the overseas visitors, tourists and business people will pick as their preferred destination in years to come ? I doubt very much it will be the UK. |

I have a bad feeling about this The runway at Northolt is not long enough for today's big jets. In the 60's a 707 landed in error and they had to remove all the lamposts on the A40 (and stop the traffic) to get it up again http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAF_Northolt Quote: On 1 June 1960, an Avro Anson aircraft suffered engine failure soon after take-off from Northolt and crash-landed on top of the nearby Express Dairies plant in South Ruislip. There were no fatalities.[33] Later that year, on 25 October, a Pan Am Boeing 707, heading for Heathrow, mistakenly landed at Northolt with forty-one passengers on board Of course they could put the A40 into a tunnel and extend the runway SW into North Hillingdon which will mean noise pollution both here and in Hayes or extend to the NW towards Ickenham again with noise drawbacks. As part of this joined up thinking on transport planning none of them seemed to have noticed that the price of fuel is constantly increasing, there are many reasons for this and this thread is not the place to discuss those but we are fast approaching a point where people will be dissuaded to travel based on the cost of it. Lets face it the costs of fuel is never going to decrease in relation to income. This is more to do with brown envelopes as per the big story overnight involving this Cruddas person. |

no need for big jets at Northolt , just domestic flights unless of course rail travel is cheaper , with big car parks at the moment its cheaper to fly |
