Post subject:  State Benefits to be taxed at source?

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/po ... 27520.html

Quote:
The basic state pension could be taxed at source under a proposal that would fuel the pensioners' revolt against the "granny tax" announced in last month's Budget.
The state pension, which rises from £102.15 to £107.45 a week today, is taxable but it is currently paid without tax being deducted immediately. Under the plan, which would force many pensioners to change the way they plan their household budgets, it would be subject to the 20 per cent basic tax rate at source, reducing it to £85.96 a week for millions. Wealthier pensioners on the 40 per cent tax rate would receive £64.47 a week.
The reform is being considered by the Treasury's tax advisers, who will report to George Osborne later this year in time for him to include any changes in next year's Budget.
If the Government tax the State Pension at source, then there is every reason to expect EVERY benefit to be taxed at source. Working Tax Credits, Child Tax Credits, Child allowance, TV licence, Bus Pass, Job Seekers Allowance, Housing Benefit, Disability Allowance, Mobility Allowance; all will be in line for a 20% tax at source.

Subject of course to the personal allowances...

This may be part of the plan to introduce the universal credit? Bringing pensions (and the required top ups) under its wing?

I Donate enough straws for them to grasp in their desperation, poor things, over a grand a week all 600 plus of them and this is the best they can do ?? ¾ of a million per week can be saved on them alone plus the perks :o :(

So:are they going to REDUCE ex_pat pensions and make us apply for a refund of tax at the end of each tax year ?
Regardless we ex-pats lose yet another COL increase for living in a Commonwealth Country !!
