http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/energy/oilandgas/9209946/UK-could-become-one-of-worlds-biggest-shale-gas-producers.html Quote: Britain may have enough offshore shale gas to catapult it into the top ranks of global producers, energy experts now believe, and while production costs are still very high, technology should eventually make reserves commercially viable. And this article which has been published behind the paywall at The Times.... http://www.rationaloptimist.com/blog/opposition-to-shale-gas-is-a-storm-in-a-teacup.aspx Quote: It is now official: drilling for shale gas by fracturing rock with water may rattle the odd teacup, but is highly unlikely to cause damaging earthquakes. That much has been obvious to anybody who has followed the development of the shale gas industry in America over the past ten years. More than 25,000 wells drilled have caused a handful of micro-seismic events that can barely be felt. Continues..... Interestingly he goes on...... Quote: The campaign to stop shale gas proving its case in the market is political, not scientific. Behind it lies vested interests. The Russian gas industry, which is alarmed at losing its impending near-monopoly on European gas supplies, has been vocal in its criticism of shale gas. The coal and nuclear industries too would like to see this baby strangled at birth, but have been less high-profile. Most of the opposition, though, has come from those with a vested interest in renewable energy, including the big environmental pressure groups, which are alarmed that the rich subsidies paid to wind, biomass and solar may be under threat if gas gets too cheap and cuts carbon emissions too effectively. Their entire rationale for subsidy, parroted by their dutiful poodle Chris Huhne, when Energy Secretary, is that gas would get more expensive until even wind and solar looked cheap. That was wishful thinking. I have often thought of the Government subsidy offered to these wind-farm and type companies a simple but effective way to transfer taxpayers money to politicians mates in big business. After all it is these sort of firms where we see them popping up as non exec directors on a huge whack once they have left office!! |

Shale is riskier in terms of drilling as it is basically beneath rocks that were not compressed and then remaining stable again for Longer. A lot ofthe oil / gas inThe Russian Arcti ocean area and under the Canadian Glaciers between British Columbia and Quesbec.Could have these problems. And before any one says that thats scaremongering, please note that Fukishima-Chernobyl were needed for energy for thehomefuel demand of these states but that the surplus energy off them in terms of vibrations could have triggered seismological events such as small tsunamies. The Indonesian one more recently had more island near it in the diorection of wave travel so some form of conservation and upgrading of technology with scientific copyright waived by every state and co-ordinated through the United Nations is in my view a necessity. Sellafield storage is one of the few 'safestorage' ares here inthe UK,the other being in Eastern Europe near Poland and Russia and Belorussia. Is this likely to happen though? |

It was the same person. They do it as an anchor web link to a independent site promotes that site in the search engines for that anchor text. All very boring but understanding why they do it is half the battle as you can spot them a mile off. |
