Nalbandian: Sportsman or thug? I hope that PC Plod also considers this matter as assault

Assault, yes probably Thug probably not.

He made a bad mistake, and it was correct he was disqualified. Further sanction should include withholding his runners up fee with some suitable compo from that for the injured Line judge.

Should they prosecute I don't know what they could achieve. The disqualification will have sent a message that this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated. The bloke knows he made a bad error and has apologised..

Donate his runners prize money to the victim would go some way to restore credibility :) :)

Remove all obstacles from the vicinity of the playing area.
Might pee-off the sponsors.

Thing that hacked me off yesterday was the way the crowd booed the referees decision.....

Even when Sue whats her name was trying to the post presentation interviews they were still at it.

The referee had no option he had to disqualify, as Jim has already pointed out what sort of message would it have sent if he was not? The (injured) line judge would have been well within his rights to complain of assault and had the player arrested on the court had they not done so.

Another sad example of how standards have fallen in society when a section of a tennis crowd are prepared to overlook a very serious disciplinary offence just so they can see more tennis.

It's a very sad day when someone losing their temper and injuring someone is accepted (by some - ie the crowd) if s/he is an overpaid sports personality, but not if it's a drunk kicking a nurse in A&E or a thug whacking a teacher at School

He deserves to be prosecuted

Did you hear his excuse? The tournament organisers set too many matches, which puts the players under stress. (poor things) What a wimp. He kicked a line judge and it's someone else's fault!!! Unbelievable innit?

On that basis maybe a prosecution and the resulting conviction would be a good thing?

It would demonstrate to elements of that childish crowd that this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated and send a wider message to prima donna tennis players that childish behaviour on court will be sanctioned through the law if need be.
