Banging noises

anyone else in hayes been woken up like i was at 1.30am this morning by what i can only describe as someone banging a metal pole into the ground i heard the same thing about 2 weeks ago a few people i know within a mile radius have also been woken up by this anyone know what it can be?

A distinct possibility SOT. It is the bane of our lives here in Northwood, and has been a regular bone of contention for the last 5 years, with the threat of more to follow.

Different lines and tracks but same end result, disturbed sleep at best, sleepless nights and stress at worst.
