Now heres a cracking good scheme if ever there was one.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politic ... again.html

If im not mistaken, anyone who owns and runs a vehicle in the UK is subjected to the following at the very least.

Vehicle Excise Duty ( Tax disc )

Fuel duty, and the additional increase in VAT receipts as the duty ( tax ) rises

Vat on Fuel duty ( as above )

http://www.petrolprices.com/the-price-of-fuel.html

A vat tax added to the cost of insuring your vehicle

On and on it goes. Its a fairly well known fact that motorists get far less back in adequate road infrastructure than they pay for in taxes. Now this government want to turn the network over to private companies ? Have they learned nothing from the past ? You surely need look no further than the other utilities that were handed over to private companies to see where that might lead.

Electricity, Gas, Water, ( basic, but essential human needs in my opinion ). Has the service improved, have costs come down, or at least remained reasonable ?

Public transport...ie: buses and trains. Are they working well and affordable ? Are they serving remote areas, or any area for that matter, at a reasonable price ?

Phone and communication companies ? ...I remember a time when you could call the operator, speak to someone in this country, and be given directory enquiries free of charge. Now its privatised the charges for that service are obscene.

Privatise the roads to get the economy moving again ? Don't make me laugh Cameron. Its all about lining some already very rich pockets.

Well it might just be better , if they give the new company , all the car , van and lorry tax , and excise duty
at least we could see where it goes , and all the roads mended
all utillity companies , charged a realistic rate , to dig them up , eg £4000 a day
buses , taxies charged for the use of bus lanes , and car owners given the choice to pay as well , to go in them

If they handed them over the likely outcome would be that road fund would still go to the Gov, plus fuel duty and VAT on fuel duty.

The privatised companies would probably be allowed to charge per mile for their profit on top of all the Gov revenue, just like the M6 toll road that presumably makes a profit ?

Also the companies taking over would have to pay tax on any profit, for HMG its win win, for the motorist and haulage companies an additional cost, that ends up with everybody, be it goods from the shops or just getting from A to B. :( :( :(

With all this pay per mile looming both from this and if red Ken gets back in, I'm just glad I will hopefully have retired before they the technology in place.

The high price of road tax is not a latest factor within the UK, since a deficit of financial commitment to the transportation program led to it being marketed off into the personal industry, many either has no option to use their own transportation or do not believe in what is in position.

at least I would be a winner now as I only do around 2/3 thousand miles a year and that would surely work out cheaper for me, then what about dissabled who rely on the car just to get out. its all money, money, money. Petrol/Diesel brings in billions, and still the infrstructure not the best by a long shot, yet another Con by the Cons. :o

I find it quite distasteful is that the Gov have now realised that a high proportion of car buyers are now going green and buying small / economical.

As a result they are looking at changing the rules so these prudent motorists don't get away with being fleeced.
