I left Hayes in '66 and returned for the first time in '92, found the town, weather and people all very grey.
Walking through the town I found that I was staring at people wondering if I recognised any of them but they all looked very blank.
Talking to shopkeepers was depressing due to the restrictions put upon their trading conditions when others could display their wares outside on the pavement!
We celebrated my mum's 81st birthday at the Grapes but was glad to move on.
Was last there in '01 but only visiting mum in nursing home in Hillingdon, had good pub grub in The Red Lion.
I agree Pam, very sad.
:(

As most of you know I am a Hayes girl born & bread. Except for one who was born at home the rest of my children were born in Hillingdon Hospital. I lived in West Drayton from 1961, the last house for 28 years till we moved to Hampshire in 2004.
But although it's taken me a fair while to get used to being here, I'll never regret moving. We lived in a nice road in West Drayton, but everything was going downhill. When we go back to visit anyone in the area we see how much worse it's become. One of my sons lives in Hillingdon and he always says how much nicer it is here. Another son moved here in 2009, and his inlaws followed from Harlington this year. It's very sad.

Likewise born and bred in Hayes End then moved to Fleet / Church Crookham in 1961 when we married.

I have relatives in Hayes End and found it depressing to visit them because the place has deteriorated so much; Southall alone was a total justification of our decision to emigrate in 1972 !

We nearly bought a house in Church Crookham. We were looking at Fleet & Church Crookham, but then someone who works with o/h mentioned that Southwood (between main Farnborough & Fleet) was nice & a desired area, so me wanting to be desired had to look! ;)

When we first married managed to buy a bungalow in Fleet; then children arrived and we bought a larger two story house in Church Crookham.
Always liked the area as we could walk, even with small children, over to Tweseldown and all that MOD land.
Moved to Canada to let the children grow up in even more open space.
