http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/9162842/Petrol-breaks-through-140p-barrier-to-reach-record-high.html

Quote:
The average price at the pumps has now reached 140.20p a litre, or £6.27 a gallon, with diesel at a new record of 146.72p, the AA said.
Petrol prices have now risen more than 2.75p a litre in just three weeks, while the cost was only 132.25p a litre at the beginning of the year.
The price of diesel at the start of 2012 stood at an average of 140.56p.

And the breakdown as fuel cost and tax.

I think this is getting very interesting. Clearly the Government, the oil companies, and to some degree, retailers just don't appear to care how high the price goes. Realistically, at some point the cost must become unsustainable and beyond the reach of an increasing number of people. Whenever I visit the pumps these days, the previous purchase is frequently for £10 or even less; which suggests that people are cutting back on how much they buy. But somehow things appear to continue as normal. I assume purchases of other less essential items must be reduced. Are people really feeling the pain yet, if so, what are they cutting back on?

I'm interested to see at what point the Government realises that it is killing the economy with these high fuel prices. Perhaps Government really doesn't care about the economy.

more to the point, they don't care about the economy, they don't live in the real world, they don't know how to live on under £500 a week, they expect pensioners to survive a week what they would spend on dinner for two out for the evening, politics is the lowest of the low as a means of making a living, I have more respect for the great train robbers, at least some thought went into their crime, politico's make it up as they go along, cheating, lying, stealing, so full of self importance, when was the last time any of them went hungry, or wondered how others managed, sorry but as my vote counts for nothing so why should I bother, other than the fact if you dont vote, you cant complain, and for all the good that does may as well be a hermit.

I never get used to it. I feel as if I have been robbed every time I fill up.

Diesel here has gone through the £7 a gallon barrier. It is now 154.9 pence a litre.
