What about part time work and a carer? Is that an option?

probably, I'm sorry but like a lot of male mental health patients my age I think I should be providing for myself and a family rather than being some sort of Rab C. Even mental helath patients have some sort of id / ego. My observation is that for some this can be worse for them in what they then do in terms of crime (esp if they have access to firearms or can drive). So I count my blessings I'm stable, in work and have a freedom pass, if thats not a cowardly thing to write.
